THE STORY: Max’s current assignment is to make a short film about artist Georgia O’Keeffe for his high school art class. He and his classmate Lily work together and grow closer. But when Max’s estranged grandfather shows up unexpectedly, his world is turned upside down. His strong-willed mom’s secrets about their family are threatened. All four characters must figure out what they believe, and ultimately, who they are. FILMING O’KEEFFE takes place in the present on Lake George where the legendary artists O’Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz once lived together. This funny, moving play examines the power of memory and perception, and how art can transform our lives.
“Bold, quirky, and intelligent, FILMING O’KEEFFE will engage and amaze on as many levels as an audience will allow. Stieglitz and O’Keeffe would smile upon it.” —Metroland (Albany, NY).

“[A] small, perfect jewel…Running at barely over an hour and 20 minutes, every minute has to count, and it absolutely does. The big ideas that playwright Eric Lane packs into such a seemingly small show are beautiful and thought-provoking.” —The Daily Gazette (Schenectedy, NY).

“One of the great takeaways from this play is how deeply original the characters are, what sticking power each has, how complete the portrayals.” —Glen Falls Chronicle (NY).

“A testament to the value of regional theater companies’ creation of new work…FILMING O’KEEFFE feels fresh and satisfying; it’s truly about something, and it has something to say…Though the play contains a lot of biographical material about [Georgia] O’Keeffe, FILMING O’KEEFFE isn’t really about her. [It is] about legacy, remembrance and passing art on into the future.” —Albany Times Union.
