THE STORY: The Hauser family of Cascade, Nebraska, lives an idyllic 1950's small-town, middle-class life until Jack, the handsome, charming, athletic son of a neighbor comes home from the big city and becomes emotionally involved in separate ways with Mrs. Hauser, Mr. Hauser and Jay, their teenage son. Mr. Hauser uses his position of authority as the town attorney to discover some of Jack’s checkered past in the city, but his attempts to shield his wife from Jack’s attentions turn back upon himself and rip the family apart. The events and their aftermath are recalled with humor and lyric compassion by the now adult Jay.
