Playwright and screenwriter Harry Segall was born in Chicago on April 10, 1892. He wrote the plays THE BEHAVIOR OF MRS. CRANE (1928), LOST HORIZONS (1934), THE ODDS ON MRS. OAKLEY (1944), and WONDERFUL JOURNEY (1946). In 1933, he moved to Hollywood to work as a screenwriter for such studios as MGM, RKO Radio Pictures, Paramount Pictures, and Universal Studios. His screenplays include “The Outcasts of Poker Flat” (1937), based on a story by Bret Harte, “There Goes My Girl” (1937), “Blind Alibi” (1938), “Blond Cheat” (1938), “Angel on My Shoulder” (1946), and “Monkey Business” (1952), directed by Howard Hawks and starring Marilyn Monroe and Cary Grant. Segall’s play HEAVEN CAN WAIT was made into the films “Here Comes Mr. Jordan” (1941), for which he won an Academy Award for Best Original Story, “Down to Earth” (1947), and “Heaven Can Wait” (1978), starring Warren Beatty and Julie Christie. He died in California in 1975.
